The final two teams of the F. E. Warren intramural basketball tournament, the 90th Force Support Squadron and the 90th Operations Group, faced off in the Freedom Hall Fitness Center April 1, and the 90th FSS team came out on top.

Because of their lower position in the regular season standings, the 90th OG would have had to win twice against the 90th FSS to earn the championship and bragging rights for a year. Since the 90th OG won the first game, spectators were treated to two hard-fought, close games.

After losing the first game, the 90th FSS had a rocky start in their second game of the night. At one point, they were down 15 to 3.

They came back strong when they found their resolve and caught back up. Both teams fought hard and kept the score about even up to the end of the game, which ended in a tie.

At the end of overtime, the 90th FSS took the victory with a score of 51 against the 90th OG's 50.

Tech Sgt. Lyron Paul, Air Force Global Strike Command Missile Engineering Organization mechanical team technician, played with the 90th FSS team and scored the winning shot during overtime that clinched the victory.

"We lost our first three games, which really brought us closer together as a team," he said.

It was this cohesiveness as well as maturity and knowledge of the game, which comes from age -- the 90th FSS team had relatively older members -- that led to their victory on the court this year, Paul said.
