WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. -- The base’s annual open house, Fort D.A. Russell Days, is kicking off today through Sunday, July 21-23. Airmen from across the wing and around the city will showcase the ICBM mission and history of the base for the general public. Events will include living history presentations, battle re-enactments, military static displays, period-style dances and there will be several tours available. “Fort D.A. Russell Days is a throwback to the first Cheyenne Frontier Days, when the base hosted reenactments of the Indian Wars,” said Paula Taylor, 90th Missile Wing ICBM and Heritage Museum director. “Now we show demonstrations and history from the colonial days up to the modern era.” Fort D.A. Russell Days is scheduled around Cheyenne Frontier Days to give more people the chance to learn about the Mighty Ninety mission heritage. During this event, visitors may tour the base as long as they have a government-issued ID. There will be opportunities this weekend to tour the training launch facility and historic homes on base built in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Shuttles will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. They will run from Frontier Park to the Ft. D.A. Russell Days grounds on base.
