Rising 6: Airman, NCO council still going strong Published Sept. 21, 2007 By Airman Alex Martinez 90th Space Wing Public Affairs F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- Monday marked four months since the Rising 6 icebreaker, an event held in the Trail's End Club that introduced airmen and NCOs to the organization. Ever since, the response has been supportive, and the organization has grown. "The Rising 6 is going real well," said Airman 1st Class Cansu Teano, 90th Contracting Squadron and the Rising 6 airman president. "We are working real hard to establish the organization." Since the icebreaker in April, the Rising 6 has participated in activities such as the Warren Xtreme Challenge where it took third place, a bowl-a-thon fundraiser to raise money for Warren private organizations, Cheyenne Frontier Days volunteering to pick up trash, and Juneteenth Celebrations offering refreshments, baked goods and an informational booth. "We are really getting out there and representing the junior enlisted personnel, and with that comes the growth we strive for," said Tech. Sgt. Brian Williams, 30th Airlift Squadron and Rising 6 NCO vice president. "There has been a lot of volunteerism from Airmen here and a lot from the 30th AS as well." The Rising 6 holds a meeting the last duty day of each month. The meeting offers all airmen and NCOs the opportunity to be involved with Rising 6 projects, to have the chance to participate in volunteer opportunities, to give their opinion on the actions of the Rising 6, and to bring any problems they have from any realm of military life. "Whether they go to the meetings or not, everyone is welcome to bring their problems or concerns to the Rising 6, and we can either help them or direct them to the appropriate place," said Staff Sgt. Gerald Teano, 90th Space Wing and Rising 6 sergeant of arms. Many topics are brought to the Rising 6, and Airmen are encouraged to help with the execution of their ideas to allow them the opportunity to have a leadership role within the organization and to help distribute the workload throughout the members. "We want Airmen to be involved in the projects they suggest so they can establish themselves within the organization," Sergeant Teano said. The Rising 6 is working on several projects including the Pigskin Classic flag football tournament Aug. 25 and 26, reorganizing the Arrive Alive designated driver program and organizing festivities for Retiree Affairs Appreciation Day Sept. 29. "Retiree Affairs Appreciation Day is the first real big event for us," Airman Teano said. "It's the first time a junior enlisted organization hosted this event here, and it's a good time to show the base what we can do, so it's really important." The executive council of the Rising 6 wants more participation from the junior enlisted members here because they are the future leaders of the organization. "We would like to have more people involved with discussions and heading up Rising 6 programs," Sergeant Teano said. Rising 6 members are asked to pay an annual membership fee of $2 a stripe and can be paid at the monthly meetings. The next Rising 6 meeting takes place Aug. 31 immediately following the promotion ceremony in the Trail's End club.
