Animal lovers and joggers will meet in Lyons Park on Sept. 25 for the annual Cheyenne Animal Shelter's Dog Jog. The annual fund raiser helps the local shelter care for more than 5,400 animals each year through adoptions, medical care, surgical sterilizations and sheltering.

Last year, the event hosted more than 350 people and nearly 300 dogs from the Cheyenne and surrounding areas. More than $38,000 was raised. This year, the CAS hopes even more people in the community will walk, or jog, in support of the thousands of cats, dogs, kittens and puppies brought to the them in need of food, shelter and a loving home. The goal this year is $50,000.

People can choose between a one-mile walk or a three-mile run. Participants can walk or jog with or without their animal companions along the trail surrounding Sloans Lake. Event day registration begins at 8 a.m. The run begins at 9 a.m., followed by the walk at 9:30 a.m. The awards and recognition ceremony follows at 10 a.m.

Organizers are encouraging friends, families, teammates, etc. to participate in "packs" which will hopefully raise even more money for the shelter, according to Rick Collord, the animal shelter executive director.

"We'd love to see the Warren community form packs based on offices, departments, flights and squadrons who share a compassion for animals," Mr. Collord said.

The pack collecting the most money to help the animals will receive the CAS Dog Jog Traveling Trophy to display at the location of their choice.
