On a beautiful, clear fall day last Thursday, the 90th Operations Group hosted their annual spouses' orientation tour. The purpose of the spouses' tour is to familiarize spouses with the mission their significant others perform every day. The tour consisted of 90th OG spouses visiting the 37th Helicopter Squadron to get an orientation of the different types of equipment military members use on a daily basis in carrying out their mission, as well as a helicopter tour over Cheyenne, Wyo.

Lt. Col. Robert MacKenzie, 37th HS commander, started the day by greeting everyone and giving a safety briefing. The group then broke into smaller groups to check out some of the equipment. Capt. Quentin Rohlfs, 37th HS pilot, gave a briefing about night vision goggles. He had the equipment spread out on the table in one of the conference rooms and talked about how they were used.

Kim Anderson, wife of Chief Master Sgt. Marty Anderson, 90th Missile Wing command chief, who attended last year's tour, said her favorite part of the tour was putting on the night vision goggles in the dark and seeing how the two different light sticks looked.

Throughout the day, the 50 spouses viewed Cheyenne from the deck of a UH-1N Huey, during nine separate flights.

Spouses agreed the tour was a fun day and a great experience. Airmen know that when they understand the mission, they have more ownership of the job. The same holds true for spouses.

Colleen Coffelt, wife of Col. Christopher Coffelt, 90th MW commander, said, "It was a great experience that really helps families appreciate all that their Airmen do, and it was a great opportunity for Airmen to say 'thank you' to their families who support them so much every day. I think the best part was flying over the capitol building."

At the end of the day, all the spouses were appreciative of the opportunity to see firsthand what their spouse does day-in and day-out.
