Being in the military we have the fortunate privilege to defend freedom and unfortunate experience of sending friends and loved ones into harm's way. To recognize their departure, we have luncheons or dinners to say farewell and wish them well.

Since arriving at Warren, I've heard of how great the Cheyenne community is and how much they support and appreciate the military. Experiencing the appreciation firsthand has made me fond of our local community.

Eleven Airmen and I went to a local restaurant March 8 for dinner to say goodbye to one of our friends leaving for Southwest Asia. While enjoying our meal, we asked the waiter if he could do something for our friend to embarrass him. To our request, all the waiters came over, made him sit in a saddle and made an announcement that he was leaving for the desert the next day. The restaurant applauded and cheered, and we continued to eat our meal.

At the end of the meal, the waiter came over to our table to bring us our bill, or so we thought. Instead, he informed us that our bill had been taken care of. As it turns out, a wonderful lady at the table next to us covered our $160 meal. Unfortunately, the lady and her family had left before any of us had a chance to say thank you.

From time to time people do good deeds, and although we are unable to personally show our gratitude, we can do something to recognize it. Hopefully, the lady who paid the bill will read this article, remember what she did and realize that her good deed didn't go unnoticed. We'd also like to say thank you, it was greatly appreciated and will never be forgotten.

People join the military for different reasons, but when you live in a gracious community like Cheyenne, serving your country makes it that much easier.

She is one of many in the Cheyenne community who enable us to show pride in what we do and make us want to continue serving our country.
