Base offers spaghetti dinner to families of deployed Airmen

F. E. Warren AFB, Wyo. -- Warren hosted the 5th annual spaghetti dinner for the families of deployed Airmen at the chapel activity center here Dec. 6.

More than 80 people attended the dinner, which consisted of a bowl of salad, a plate of spaghetti and meatballs, and dessert.

"This is our way of supporting [these families,]" said Master Sgt. Regina Campbell, director of the event. "The dinner gives them a chance to network with other families of the deployed and lets them have a night off to relax, enjoy a festive event."

The dinner began with a speech from Mrs. Wyoming America about the sacrifices deployed Airmen make.

Col. Mike Morgan, 90th Space Wing commander, spoke on behalf of the support available to these families. "You're going to get the help you need, whether you want it or not," he said with a laugh.

Many organizations helped sponsor the event including the Noncommissioned Officer Association and Air Force Association.

"I'm a Vietnam veteran," said Al Buss, NCOA treasurer and head spaghetti cook. "When I returned home, I didn't have a warm welcome. I didn't have support as a deployed person. And I'll be darned if that ever happens again.

"You have to enjoy what you're doing," Mr. Buss said about serving spaghetti to the families. "When you look out there and you see those smiles, it means everything."
