Personally procured move replaces DITY move

The Do It Yourself move program has a new name: Personally Procured move.

All members in permanent change of station, separation, retirement or local move status that have the proper authorization must report to the Traffic Management Office immediately upon receipt of orders to schedule contracted and PPM in order to out-process the base and clear housing. Personally procured transportation or non-temporary storage of personal property without prior approval will only be authorized when an event beyond a member's control prevents prior approval.

The PPM is available to all authorized members with valid travel orders. The TMO staff will provide information on procedures for performing a PPM. It is important to know that PPM weights are part of, not an addition to, a member's full weight entitlement.

Monetary payments are based on government moves. Upon receipt of orders, members must obtain counseling and authorization from the local TMO prior to starting their PPM. If the member is unable to travel to the local traffic management flight due to excessive distance or time constraints, a faxed authorization may be provided by TMO upon request.

If a member wants to include professional books, paper and equipment in their personally procured move, a detailed list must be provided to the TMO at the time of counseling. This list must be authorized and approved by the TMO or designated representative using the cubic foot method. A DD Form 1701, JPPSO-SAT estimator or similar document may be used to calculateĀ PBP&E weight. This establishes that the PBP&E weight can be deducted from the member's joint federal travel regulations weight allowance only and has nothing to do with computing the weight moved.

The member must have accomplished all other aspects of the personally procured move procedures -- obtained necessary weight tickets or qualified for constructed weight and possess valid travel orders outlining the entitlement. A monetary payment may also be authorized in other cases when a member cannot obtain weight tickets because of unusual circumstances. Approval authority for the above circumstances is delegated to TMO officer or equivalent. The use of constructed weights to authorize payment of monetary allowance under these circumstances is authorized. When these operations are contracted, the functional director having oversight of the contracted operations must approve or disapprove use of constructed weights.

For more information about what is or is not authorized, call the TMF at 773-3830.
