Family, friends and co-workers of deploying security forces Airmen attended a barbecue at Bldg. 1501 March 7.

The "burger burn," hosted by the 90th Security Forces Group Top 4 organization, provided the deploying Airmen a chance for food, drinks and camaraderie as an official send off.

"[The Top 4] always tries to support our troops," said Tech. Sgt. Troy Grubaugh, 90th Space Wing antiterrorism office. "This burger burn was a good way to show our support before they leave."

The experiences of deploying Airmen vary. Some have deployed many times. For most, however, this is a new experience.

"I'm a little excited because I'm going to get a lot of experience," said Senior Airman Charles Rhodes, 90th Security Forces Squadron and first time deployer. "I'm also a little nervous because I don't know what to expect."

Staff Sgt. Peter Pritchett, 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron, said he is always nervous before a deployment until he gets there. This is Sergeant Pritchett's third deployment.

Eight local members of the Patriot Guard Riders also attended the burger burn; they held American flags for the Airmen as they entered the bay.

Events like barbecues for deploying and returning Airmen are more and more important as deployments increase in quantity.

"It's nice to know that my squadron and commanders are supporting us," Sergeant Pritchett said. "It's good for morale and lets us know we are being taken care of."
