The 90th Missile Security Forces Squadron Flight One Airmen line up into a wedge formation during their confrontation training April 28 in the field behind Bldg. 152. The training is designed to give the security forces Airmen a more realistic feel of crowd control. The “aggressors” dressed in red suits to protect them from any hits from the batons (U.S. Air Force photos/Staff Sgt. Chad Thompson).
Staff Sgt. Kevin Gallagher (center), 90th Security Support Squadron, briefs the NCOs of 90th MSFS Flight One before the confrontation training. Safety was a concern for the training because the Airmen were using riot gear and wooden batons. The protective red suits are designed to reduce physical stress, but caution is needed.
One “aggressor” tries to break the 90th MSFS Flight One confrontation formation during the training. If a protestor was to use force the security forces Airmen are allowed to retaliate to protect themselves as a last resort.
