Tactical Response Force team takes prize in flag football tournament

F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, Wyo. --  The 90th Security Forces Group Tactical Response Force flag football team was up against the wall going into the last night of play in the F. E. Warren flag football tournament Nov. 2.

To take the title, they had to win three games in a row.

First, they had to win was against the 790th Missile Security Forces Squadron. Then, if the TRF team got past that hurdle, after just a few minutes rest, they would have to take on a rested 90th Maintenance Group team who they had lost to 12 to 7 the night before.

The MXG team only had to win one game that night to claim the title, but, since it was a double-elimination tournament, the TRF team would have to beat the MXG team twice.

If the TRF team had a single loss, they would have been out, but they pulled through.

The TRF team shut out the 790th MSFS team in the semi-final game and then outscored the MXG team 19 to 6 in the next game forcing one more game in the double elimination tournament. To show it was not a fluke, the TRF team beat them again 18 to 13.

They played three 40-minutes games against two opponents in less than 2-and-a-half hours and emerged champions.

Co-coach Airman 1st Class Jack Robinette, 90th SFG/TRF, had a simple answer for how they pulled it off.

"Teamwork," he said.

What got them through the night may have been the philosophy quarterback Staff Sgt. Andrew Vautrin, a 90th Security Support Squadron NCO who was a member of the 90th SFG/TRF when the season began, got the team through the 18-game regular season.

"Just keep coming," Vautrin said. "Keep on fighting and you'll get there."
