Kristine Herrera, the Unit Program Coordinator for the 319th Missile Squadron, was recognized with the National Image Inc. 2019 Meritorious Service Award at a ceremony Sept. 19 in Las Vegas.

The award is presented to individuals who provide outstanding service to their branch of service and their community.

“When I found out, I was overwhelmed, honored and I cried a lot.” said Herrera. “Every time I’d tell another member of my family, I’d start tearing up again.”

In addition to her own recognition, Herrera noted the effort that her unit gave to submit her.

“We received the tasker pretty last-minute, but Capt. Zach Dennis worked hard to get it completed in less than a day and my leadership was able to submit it,” said Herrera. “For all of them to say that I deserve it means a lot.”

The service award is given annually to federal employees by National Image, a non-profit organization that promotes Hispanic employment in the federal government. They chose Herrera due to her epitomizing the core values exemplifying outstanding service to the Air Force and Cheyenne, according to Sylvia Chavez, the organization’s president.
