Tax center open to Warren community Published Feb. 3, 2011 By Airman 1st Class Dan Gage 90th Missile Wing Public Affairs F. E. WARREN AIR FORCE BASE, WYO -- The F. E. Warren Tax Center opened its doors to military members Wednesday for this year's tax season. Members of Air Force Global Strike Command's F. E. Warren Air Force base, as well as their dependents, retirees and civilian employees can schedule a one hour appointment Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 4 p.m. The tax center is a free service offered to military members by volunteer members of the Warren community. "I am thrilled with the tax center and the benefits that we will be able to offer our base populace," said Capt. Star Lopez, 90th Missile Wing Judge Advocate. "While the Warren legal office annually sponsors the tax center, squadrons across the base have contributed manpower and donations of time and resources. Our volunteers are intelligent, hardworking and selfless people who have taken their personal time to help many of our members, retirees and civilian employees." "This outpouring of support is a tribute to how the people within our base community take care of each other and provide the invaluable peace of mind that serves an integral part in our strategic role of protecting Americans," Capt. Lopez added. Those wishing to take advantage of the services being offered by the tax center should arrive 10 minutes prior to their appointment. Walk-ins are welcome on a first-come, first-served basis and will be seen as volunteer availability allows, according to Capt. Lopez. Clients are asked to bring in identification and all tax related documents including 2009 federal and state returns. Military identification and social security cards must be provided for everyone on the return, also all tax documents showing income and tax withholdings for 2010. Forms needed include W-2, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-G, 1099-MISC, 1099-R and K-1. If a permanent change of station took place in 2010, all travel vouchers and receipts should be provided. Also, a power of attorney is needed for deployed spouses. For those individuals with dependents, documentation of child care expenses and divorce decrees that affect child dependency exemptions should be provided if necessary. Finally, a voided check with bank routing and account numbers should be provided for direct deposit purposes. "Never-ending changes to the tax code and all the deductions, credits and exemptions that go along with it cause many people to dread tax season," said 2nd Lt. Gavin Light, 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron. "Fortunately, the tax center allows Airmen and their families to get their tax returns prepared and filed by IRS-certified volunteers for free."
