What about housing?
Housing - On Base
The base has five distinct housing areas. The most unusual are the 156 "bricks" built between 1885 and 1933. These have placed Warren on the national historic preservation list. Among the largest are the expansive senior officer homes. The officer bricks start at 2,500 square feet and most include oak floors, cathedral ceilings and a fireplace. Sergeant's Row bricks are reserved for junior NCOs.
Carlin Heights, built in 1987, has 265 two-, three- and four-bedroom units in duplex, triplex and fourplex layouts. Carlin Heights' homes range from 1,000 to 1,500 square feet and are located behind the commissary/BX complex.
Capehart/MCP homes were built in the 1960s and are located behind the medical clinic. Capehart has 100 three- and four-bedroom homes with basements. They average 1,200 square feet. The MCP homes for junior NCOs are fourplex units with 1,200 square feet plus a basement. MCP homes for senior NCOs are three- and four-bedroom units with approximately 1,300 square feet plus a basement.
The Atlas housing area was completed in the summer of 2000. There are 210 one- and two-story units that are 1,200 square feet. These are all three-bedroom junior NCO units.
Housing - Off Base
The housing referral office is located in Building 306. Regulations require a visit to the referral office before renting or buying off-base housing. The office will provide current listings of available rental and sale properties and any current sanctions against landlords. The housing referral office can also provide a map of Cheyenne, information about schools, the landlord/tenant laws and a copy of the military clause.
Although Warren is located next to Cheyenne, off-base housing is not abundant. Large families can expect some difficulty in finding rentals. The majority of apartments are only one and two bedroom. Single-family rental homes are scarce and expensive.
Warren has no government mobile home facilities, but there are mobile home parks in the area. It's advisable to obtain a mobile home space before moving a mobile home. Rent for mobile home lots range from $200 to $250.
A pet can severely limit options as few landlords allow them. If a landlord accepts pets, there may be a non-refundable deposit.
People interested in purchasing a home will find a fair selection in most areas of the city. The estimated cost of a three-bedroom home averages $117,000 to $150,000, depending on location, structure and design.
In all cases, the housing referral office has referral materials and listings. The housing referral office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. For more information call (307) 773-1840.

Current housing policy is to provide all dorm residents with a private room. Single service members in the grades of E-5 and above may draw basic allowance for housing and live off base. Single Airmen E-4 and below who wish to live off base are put on the BAH waiting list, which is prioritized by rank.

School registration occurs in August and details of registration are published in the Warren Sentinel.
Transportation to schools vary. The Warren Youth Center offers a before and after school program with transportation to schools furnished by the Laramie County School District. To resolve bus problems, parents should call the bus garage at 771-2628.
Students residing on base attend Freedom Elementary. Older students attend McCormick Junior High School or Central Senior High School. Students living off base attend the closest school with available classroom space. Call 771-2100 for placement assistance.
Birth certificates and shot records are required for enrollment. Special education records must be requested from previous school and permission given to forward to current school. If the child's current school has a policy restricting the shipment of school records, then LCSD will request the records and make every effort to place the student at the school closest to the child's home.
For more information call the LCSD at 771-2188.
There are five private schools in the local area within a five-mile radius from the base.
Colleges in the area include Laramie County Community College, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, Park College, University of Phoenix and the University of Wyoming.
What services does the AFRC provide?

The center can provide relocation information about the base, the Cheyenne area, employment for spouses and financial management and consultation. When a military member is TDY, deployed or on a remote tour, the AFRC is there to assist the family remaining at home. Transition assistance services are offered to all active-duty members who are leaving the service.
The center serves as a "one-stop shop" where family members have priority. The center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays.
The temporary loan program, through family services, supports newly arrived people by providing small appliances and some furnishings for the home until members' household goods shipments arrive. Many items are available to temporary duty people. Most items can be borrowed for up to 30 days. Microwaves, TVs/VCRs and vacuums are loaned for five days with two possible renewals.

The gate guard can provide directions to the 24-hour central arrival point at the Crow Creek Inn, Building 216. This office will assist in contacting sponsors.
