What is LEAP?

The Language Enabled Airman Program is run by the Air Force Culture and Language Center as an opportunity for Airmen across various career fields to hone and develop their proficiency in a foreign language. It’s targeted toward Airmen who already have pre-existing language capability.

If accepted, participants are required to complete online training and periodically attend temporary duty assignments to areas that speak the language they are learning. This is to enhance their language skills and cultural awareness.

How to apply

Applicants must have moderate to high proficiency in a language specified on the Air Force Strategic Language List. This is determined by the Defense Language Proficiency Tests or Oral Proficiency Interviews.

Contact local Test Control Officer, usually located in the base education office.

Submit an application during the designated time frame. The application can be accessed through the Air Force Portal.
