Maintenance Nation,

First and foremost we want to say how proud we are of all the work you have done in the last few months.  You have NO idea the amount of accolades we get from 20th AF and AFGSC on the job you have done during these trying times. Chief Mayberry and I are so lucky to be part of such a great team.

Together we are capable of great things as evident in our OUTSTANDING execution of OLYMPIC RAMPART, we have maintained our nuclear weapons systems at the highest alert rate since the cold war.  We worked as a team hand and hand, brother and sister to keep our nation safe from those who will do us harm.  Today we see another war waging, not a war of nations, but a war internal to our nation.  I am deeply sadden by the death of George Floyd and the actions of a few that affect many and take away from the real issue .  We must again come together as a team to get through this perilous times.  The Air Force is a team base on fundamental principles of our core values and based on these principles we will endure.  But let us make one thing clear for sure, RACISM/SEXISM/BIGOTRY have no part in the Air Force.

We echo Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria’s message in his speech to the Air Force Academy “If you can’t treat someone from another race, or different color skin, with dignity and respect, then you need to get out.”  Inclusion, Dignity, Respect, and Love these are not just words they are actions, these are underlining principles of our core values.  We must live by these values, only then as a team can we overcome these obstacles in our nation’s way.

We are a family, please, if you feel frustrated, talk to someone, if you feel you need to march downtown and peacefully protest, then protest.  If doing so, please remember to do it not as a military member but a citizen of this nation.  Words cannot heal wounds, but constructive conversation can.  We leave you a message from the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force (these are only snippets not to be taken out of context of his whole post);

“Like me, acknowledge your right to be upset about what’s happening to our nation. But you must then find a way to move beyond rage and do what you think is right for the country, for you community, for you sons, daughters, friends and colleagues…”

“As shocking as that may sound to some of you, I hope you realize that racism/discrimination/exclusion does not care much about position, titles or stature…. so yes, it could happen to you, or one of your friends, or your Airmen, or your [non-commissioned officer in charge], your Flight Chief, your Squadron Commander or even your Wing Commander.”

“I am Kaleth. I am a Black Man who happens to be the Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force and I am committed to making this better.

Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright

We are both Minorities who happen to be a Chief Master Sergeant and Colonel in the 90th Maintenance Group and we are committed to making this better.

Continue to stay safe and take care of yourselves and each other!

Sincerely and Respectfully,

Chief Master Sergeant Dwayne Mayberry and Colonel Brian Rico
