Malina Boardman, a family child care provider, has recently been selected as the Family Child Care Provider of the Year at F.E Warren Air Force Base, Wyoming. Boardman has been an FCC Provider at F.E. Warren for three years, and a previous child development program assistant at both F.E. Warren and Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas.

Boardman was recognized by the Mission Support Group Commander and Force Support Squadron Commander as Provider of the Year based off her professionalism and exceptional commitment to quality in family child care.

“Malina’s passion for teaching young children is evident through her work, daily interactions, and 24/7 commitment to our military families,” said Joyce Cisneros, community child care coordinator. “Her skills, abilities and experiences are unquestionable. What Malina does day in and day out is a much needed service to our military and civilian community at this time.”

In addition, to maintaining a home business, Boardman maintains a busy schedule with her own family of five. They all have a true love for animals. Currently, they have a rabbit named Lucky, two Cockatiel’s named Snow and Pepper and the newest additions to her family Tillie and Latte, whom are both Toy Australian Shepherds.

Broadman is in the process of obtaining accreditation through the National Association of Family Child Care (NAFCC) and hopes to receive her visit within the coming months. National accreditation is an additional criteria used to determine the quality of a child care program.

Family child care homes and child care centers may pursue accreditation in order to increase their level of care. Accredited providers must meet higher standards than those set forth by state licensing. These programs offer the kind of care, attention, and education activities that parents look for in high-quality child care. Additionally, activities and experiences that aid a child’s growth and development, which will better prepare them for school.

FCC providers offer child care in their homes for children ages two weeks to 12 years old. The needs of each family vary from routine weekly child care, to early morning and late evening care. Additionally, other programs offered are missile care, deployment care, PCS care, supplemental care, emergency medical care, and FCC provider orientation child care. The program is open to active duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian employees for the Department of Defense. One of the hallmarks of the Air Force Family Child Care Program is its ability to tailor the types of care offered to virtually fit every schedule, deployment or special need.

Air Force FCC Providers undergo stringent certification requirements to include: Completion of 15 Air Force training modules, monthly unannounced home visits, background investigations, annual training and certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The FCC program is always recruiting new providers to join our team.
