More than a month ago, the 90th Logistics Readiness Squadron commander initiated the abandonment and disposal program.

Chuck Shafer, 90th LRS, inherited the program to determine the serviceability or disposal of used office furniture and supplies that had accumulated in several base facilities.

"Mr. Shafer has never seen such a disposal nightmare as the one he would now lead the charge for," said Maj. Paul Pidgeon, 90th LRS commander.

The facilities were full of items such as used office furniture, bed frames, white boards and office supplies.

In late February, 90th LRS initiated a plan of attack. Many days of sorting, re-stacking and disposing of obvious trash were conducted and a base-all e-mail went out to alert Airmen looking for furniture to visit Bldg. 332, where the remainder of items were available for reuse.

Once the base picked up what they needed, the 90th LRS formed a team to move the leftover furniture April 2.

Several hours after the unit assembled, the building was empty.

"It did my heart good to see the spirit of teamwork within our squadron," says Daniel Fraser, 90th LRS deputy commander. "Our squadron would like to thank those from other squadrons who volunteered their time in the weeks past to help with this task."
There are more facilities that must be cleared and more furniture and supplies to be offered for re-use in the months to come.
